Union Gas supports 'Alarmed and Ready' smoke alarm program
$2,500 grant to Hamilton Fire Department for the installation of smoke alarms
STONEY CREEK, ON, Sept. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - Union Gas is helping Hamilton Fire Department improve public safety through a $2,500 grant to their "Alarmed and Ready" smoke alarm program.
Mark Egbedeyi-Emmanuel, Union Gas district manager for Hamilton/Halton, presented the cheque to Hamilton Fire Department Chief Fire Prevention Officer Frank Biancucci today at the Union Gas office on South Service Road in Stoney Creek.
In June 2004, the Hamilton Fire Department announced the launch of the "Alarmed and Ready" smoke alarm program. Through the program, Hamilton firefighters install smoke alarms and/or smoke alarm batteries in homes where homeowners, who because of financial reasons, age, physical or mental limitations, cannot install or purchase their own. The installation is provided at no cost to the homeowner and only minutes to complete.
"At Union Gas, safety governs everything we do, whether we are building a pipeline or installing a gas meter at your home," said Egbedeyi-Emmanuel. "Because of our safety culture, we make it a priority to support important and much-needed programs like this one, which is helping ensure the safe of those most vulnerable in our community."
"I am extremely pleased to announce today that Union Gas has committed to continue to assist Hamilton Fire Department in the 'Alarmed & Ready' Program with additional funding in the amount of $2,500 towards the purchase of smoke alarms and batteries," said Biancucci. "This important funding supports our goal of installing smoke alarms/batteries to protect vulnerable citizens from the ravages of fire in their home."
