Union Gas supports development of future community leaders
$6,000 grant to Leadership Waterloo Region
WATERLOO, ON, Jan. 11, 2013 /CNW/ - Union Gas is helping Leadership Waterloo Region develop local community leaders through a $6,000 grant awarded to Leadership Waterloo Region for their Core Program.
Jennifer Burnham, Union Gas district support manager for Waterloo District, presented the cheque to Anne Lavender, Leadership Waterloo Region's executive director at a recent Leadership Day on Innovation. Community leaders from all sectors, as well as class members, joined in the presentation, which accompanied a workshop on the vital role that creativity and innovation play in the development of a healthy community.
"At Union Gas we are committed to being active members in the communities we serve and work hard with our community partners to change the living conditions for individuals and families for the better," said Burnham. "That's why we're so pleased to support Leadership Waterloo Region and the work they do to improve the quality of life for citizens in the Waterloo Region."
Leadership Waterloo Region's Core Program brings together established and emerging leaders in the community to build a network of leaders who will continue the vision of those who built this amazing region. Tailored for busy professionals from the business, government and social profit sectors of the community, the Leadership Waterloo Region program provides an opportunity for participants to explore their personal leadership styles, practice leadership skills in a group setting, and learn more about the community make-up including both its outstanding characteristics and the challenges it faces.
Leadership Waterloo Region's 300-plus alumni are heavily involved on more than 300 local boards of directors and committees. In addition, some also serve in public office. The organization regularly links alumni with leadership opportunities and makes it possible for local Social Profit organizations to share information with an extensive leadership alumni network.
"Union Gas has been a supporter of Leadership Waterloo Region since we began this work through both financial donations and by making it possible for one of their rising stars to participate in our program every year since 2003," said Lavender. "We are pleased to recognize Union Gas as an outstanding corporate citizen."
Over the past 100 years, Union Gas has been privileged to work in more than 400 Ontario communities. In addition to natural gas delivery services for homes and businesses, Union Gas has contributed to the province through significant economic investments, hundreds of jobs, millions in municipal taxes, energy efficiency programs, thousands of volunteer hours for community organizations, major charitable giving and sponsorships. Each year Union Gas contributes millions of dollars to charitable organizations across Ontario, including United Way. For more information visit uniongas.com/community.
