Union Gas supports endangered bird recovery project in Halton
$2,500 grant to Conservation Halton to save endangered Eastern Loggerhead Shrike
BURLINGTON, ON, Nov. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - Union Gas is supporting Conservation Halton Foundation's Shrike Recovery Project, which aims to bring the endangered Eastern Loggerhead Shrike back from the edge of extinction in Canada, courtesy of a $2,500 grant awarded today. These funds will help to house and breed Eastern Loggerhead Shrikes at a customized facility located in the Mountsberg Conservation Area, and stabilize the Shrike population by releasing captive-bred hatchlings into the wild.
Lindsay Robinson, Union Gas utility service manager for Burlington presented the cheque to Brian Hobbs, director of development for Conservation Halton Foundation at Mountsberg Conservation Area, in Campbellville.
"At Union Gas, we believe in investing today to ensure a bright tomorrow. That means being environmental stewards and supporting important ecological programs in the communities we serve," said Robinson. "We are very pleased to partner with Conservation Halton Foundation in this important initiative to recover the endangered Eastern Loggerhead Shrike."
"Conservation Halton Foundation is pleased to work with generous partners like Union Gas, who have been a steady supporter of the Shrike Recovery Project," said Hobbs. "This project is vitally important because there are just 70 Eastern Loggerhead Shrikes left in the wild. It is this kind of reliable and generous support over the long term that will help us bring the Shrikes back from the edge of extinction."
