Union Gas supports safety programs for First Nation communities
$2,500 Gift to Canadian Red Cross Society
THUNDER BAY, ON, Dec. 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Union Gas today announced a $2,500 grant to the Canadian Red Cross Society in support of their First Aid and Injury Prevention Program for First Nation communities in Couchiching, Constance Lake and Fort William.
David Sword, Union Gas district manager for northwest district, presented the cheque to Rob Zuback, donor relations manager for the Canadian Red Cross Society, at the organization's office on Barton Street in Thunder Bay.
"A passionate commitment to safety is central to our business culture and operations. It is one of our core values, and part of everything we do from ensuring our pipeline system is in safe operating condition at all times, to supporting important safety initiatives in the communities we serve," said Sword. "That's why we are so pleased to support the Canadian Red Cross Society's First Aid and Injury Prevention Program and the work they do to improve the safety of citizens in our First Nation communities."
"We are delighted that Union Gas recognizes the work of the Canadian Red Cross in helping to make communities safer, particularly for those most vulnerable," said Zuback.
The gift will support the Red Cross' Strength and Spirit Campaign through which the Canadian Red Cross will work in partnership with First Nation communities to enhance their capacity to promote health, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies, prevent injuries, and address abuse and violence. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for families and individuals in these communities.
