Union Gas teams up with Western to deliver major energy savings
$38,000 from utility for latest energy-saving project on university campus
LONDON, ON, May 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Thanks to $38,000 in incentives from the Union Gas EnerSmart program, Western University has made a number of energy-efficiency upgrades to its natural gas-fired steam distribution system. The upgrades are part of a broader energy management program lead by Western's Energy Management Team that will save the university almost $1 million this year.
Jackie Caille, Union Gas' director of residential and commercial sales, presented the cheque to Mary Quintana-Lopez, compliance coordinator, energy and water projects for Western University, at a Union Gas customer meeting held in London today.
"Natural gas is affordable and clean, and our goal is to help our customers use this reliable resource in an efficient way," said Caille. "These investments will not only help Western reduce its energy use and operating costs, but they also help the environment."
"Western continues to emerge as a leader in sustainability and our energy-saving projects are a key component of our success," says Gitta Kulczycki, vice-president of resources and operations at Western University.
The Union Gas EnerSmart program offers incentives to its commercial and industrial customers for projects that will use natural gas more efficiently, lowering energy costs and emissions.
Union Gas is dedicated to energy conservation and reducing its environmental footprint. Since it first began offering Demand Side Management programs in 1997, Union Gas has delivered over 5.2 billion cubic metres of natural gas savings, and reduced carbon monoxide emissions by the equivalent of removing 1.7 million cars from Ontario's roads for a year.
