Unique New Residential Community Proposed for Canterbury Golf Club
TORONTO, Sept. 5, 2015 /CNW/ - Port Perry's Canterbury Golf Club has been sold to award-winning Ontario developer and builder Geranium Corporation. Geranium plans to re-purpose the site as a 120-home single-family residential development. The course surrounds the existing upscale residential community of Canterbury Common on the shore of Lake Scugog, just east of Uxbridge, about an hour's drive northeast of Toronto.
"There is strong market demand for high quality homes in Port Perry, and we are committed to planning a development that will be sensitive to, and compatible with the surrounding community, and will work to ensure the new homes complement the established character of the Canterbury Common neighborhood," says Cheryl Shindruk, Executive Vice-President of Geranium Corporation.
"Canterbury has been under-performing as a golf club in recent years, leading to the difficult decision to sell," explains Kitchener-Waterloo based GolfNorth Properties' CEO Shawn Evans. "Given Geranium's history of innovation and construction excellence, we are confident that the Canterbury Community of which we've been a part for so many years, is in good hands."
GolfNorth Properties, founded in 1994, is a golf and resort management company which has expanded steadily, and is a national leader in the consolidation and management of public and semi-private golf properties in Canada.

GolfNorth has entered into an agreement with Geranium to operate the golf course for the remainder of the 2015 season. Canterbury will permanently close its doors at the end of business on October 18, 2015.
