"United Breaks Guitar" songwriter helps men & women in uniform
Proceeds from Dave's "Everyday Heroes" tribute will support Tema Conter Memorial Trust to provide education of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
TORONTO, Sept. 17 /CNW/ - Dave Carroll, singer/songwriter became an overnight phenomenon with his song "United Breaks Guitars", a rendition of his experience when his $3,500 Taylor guitar was broken while in custody of United Airlines. His music video about the inherent "Promises Broken" by the airline went viral, immediately amassing 150,000 hits within one day, 500,000 within one month and currently at over 9.4 million to date.
Dave Carroll wants to draw national attention to another experience, this time directly related to those individuals who spend their lives helping you - our first responders in fire, EMS, and police services. Together, we hope to raise awareness of acute, cumulative and post traumatic stress disorder and how these psychological stressors affect many of these dedicated people and their families.
The Tema Conter Memorial Trust was established to end the silence and ease the suffering of acute, cumulative and post traumatic stress disorder for our emergency services and military personnel. It is estimated that 2 in 5 emergency services and military personnel will be affected by mental illness during their careers.
Through raising awareness, education, training and research along with the provision of peer and psychological support, the organization's key aim is to help these men and women when they need it the most.
"I am very pleased to be launching my 'Everyday Heroes' tribute on Monday, September 20th in Saint John, New Brunswick at CAFC and 911song.com. I believe the message in this song will resonate with many people and hope they will join me in supporting those who support our communities. One of the ways people can become involved is by donating to great 'Everyday Heroes' charities like the Tema Conter Memorial Trust", notes Dave.
"We're thrilled to receive Dave's support which will continue to help us shed light on the often forgotten pain these individuals face sometimes on a daily basis. They witness horrendous situations as a normal part of their work day and that doesn't necessarily mean they are immune to violence and human suffering" says Vince Savoia, Executive Director & Founder of the Tema Conter Memorial Trust.
Vince Savoia was the attending paramedic at the murder scene of Ms. Tema Conter in 1988. As a result of his experience, Mr. Savoia suffered with the effects of PTSD for many years before it was properly diagnosed and treated.
"We look forward to continue working with Dave Carroll Music and feel confident that together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who spend their lives helping us" concludes Savoia.
