United Steelworkers Mourns Loss of John Phare
BURNABY, B.C., July 7 2015 /CNW/ - United Steelworkers District 3 Director Stephen Hunt and Local 1-1937 President Brian Butler released the following statement today regarding the death of John Phare:
"The United Steelworkers joins all British Columbians in extending our deepest condolences to the family of John Phare, who tragically lost his life while bravely fighting a forest fire near Sechelt.
"John was regularly called upon to help with wildfires and put his logging skills to work to ensure that fires did not spread. Everyone owes a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women, like John, who put themselves at risk to protect our homes and communities."
John Phare was a member of United Steelworkers Local 1-1937, having first signed his company, John Phare Contracting, to IWA Local 2171 in 1989.
