Update on the Status of Winter Maintenance Operations in the City of Toronto

TORONTO, Dec. 15, 2013 /CNW/ - Here is an update on snow clearing operations for the City of Toronto.

Roadway Salting
Salt will be applied to all roads as plowing operations are completed.  This operation will continue until complete at approximately 8pm.

Roadway Plowing
Plowing operations on expressways and main roads are complete.  Plows will continue to cleanup left turn lanes, bus lanes, etc. throughout the day.  Residential road plowing will be completed by approximately 5pm in all areas of the city. 

Sidewalk Salting & Plowing
Sidewalk salting & plowing commenced at approximately 3am.  This operation will be completed by approximately 5pm in all areas of the city.

City of Toronto reminds residents about how they
can help out following a snow storm

With the winter storm now finished, the City of Toronto is reminding residents about some important things that they can do after a storm.

• Wherever possible, keep parked cars off the roads.  This assists our snow plowing efforts.
• If you don't have to drive, please don't.  Take public transit where possible.  Fewer vehicles on the road helps to assist with snow clearing operations.
• Please continue to drive with caution.  Roads may still be slippery in some areas.
• Snow plows are still clearing roads.  Expect some delays.
• Where possible, give yourself more time to reach your destination.
• Please avoid parking vehicles over sidewalks.  This hampers sidewalk snow plowing efforts.
• Private snow clearing operators and the public are reminded that it is illegal to push snow back onto the street from private property or parking lots.  By-law enforcement officers will be ticketing property owners and contractors that fail to comply.
• Assist elderly or disabled neighbours by shovelling snow for them
• When shovelling snow, please don't push the snow out onto the roads.  This is dangerous and hampers snow clearing operations.
• When piling snow on your property take care not to block sightlines that prevent you from exiting your driveway safely.
• Clear snow from around catch basins.  This helps to prevent flooding on the roadway.
• Clear snow from around fire hydrants.  This is the resident's responsibility.
• Snow clearing on the local roads is usually completed between 14-16 hours after the snow stops falling. If your road has not been plowed after this time period, call 311.
