Updated Food Recall Warning (Allergen) - Various brands of Debittered Brewer's Yeast recalled due to undeclared peanut

OTTAWA, Feb. 14, 2019 /CNW/ - The food recall warning issued on February 14, 2019 has been updated to include additional product information. This additional information was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) food safety investigation.

Westpoint Distributors Ltd. is recalling Debittered Brewer's Yeast from the marketplace because it contains peanut which is not declared on the label. People with an allergy to peanut should not consume the recalled products described below. 

The following products have been sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

Background

This recall was triggered by a consumer complaint. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.

Reactions

There have been no reported reactions for the above brands.  However, a reported reaction has been identified in the February 7, 2019 Food Recall Warning  for another branded product that has the same raw material supply as the Debittered Brewer's Yeast products listed above.
