UPS gives $1 million to United Way
MISSISSAUGA, ON, July 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Once again, UPS Canada was honoured with the United Way Centraide Canada's prestigious national 'Thanks a Million' award, which was presented at the Annual General Meeting in Burlington on June 17th.
This is the 12th consecutive year that United Way has recognized the exceptional contribution of UPS Canada and its employees. The award commemorates organizations that, through corporate charity and the combined efforts of employees and members, contribute $1,000,000 or more to United Way nationwide.
"We're extremely proud of this honour, said Michael Tierney, UPS Canada President. "UPS was founded with the principle that we must be committed to the communities in which we work and live. I am especially proud of UPS employees across Canada who continue to share their time and efforts in support of the vital services United Way provides. They are keeping our founding principles alive."
Each UPS facility in Canada takes part in an annual United Way pledge campaign, with various fundraisers hosted throughout the year. This year the Second Annual 'Pulling for U' Plane Pull is taking place. The event is a collaborative effort with United Way Calgary and the UPS Calgary centre. Teams of 15 are challenged to pull an approximate 190,000 lbs Airbus A300 for 50 feet in the quickest time.
"Once again UPS Canada and their employees have led the way and made significant contributions to the well-being of Canadians through their partnership with the United Way/Centraide movement across Canada. On behalf of the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who benefit from this generousity, may I extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation in helping us build stronger, more vibrant and caring communities," said Len Lifchus, CEO - United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton.
Since its founding in 1907, UPS has built a legacy as a caring and responsible corporate citizen. Whether through its involvement with United Way, The UPS Foundation or volunteerism, UPS provides assistance to programs that provide long-term solutions to community needs.
