UPS celebrates opening with formal ribbon cutting
DIEPPE, NB, June 6, 2012 /CNW/ - UPS (NYSE:UPS) celebrated the opening of its Dieppe facility with a formal ribbon cutting ceremony alongside Mayor Yvon Lapierre today.
UPS began pickup and delivery services for its customers in Greater Moncton on April 23. Further to bringing the iconic brown trucks and uniforms worn by UPS drivers, the organization is bringing its reputation for reliability and global network to the people and businesses in Moncton.
"We have been in Greater Moncton for more than 18 years; expanding our brand presence and global network to the business community was a natural step for UPS," says Shelley Gares, Director of Operations, Atlantic Canada. "We are committed to providing the same quality of service and safety standards to the region that we are known for across the globe."
UPS package cars will now be sharing the roads with the people of Greater Moncton and road safety is a top priority. All UPS drivers go through comprehensive training programs that not only fulfill the legal requirements, which are customized per situation, but supplement them in many areas with accident-prevention strategies developed in-house.
"The City of Dieppe is very proud to welcome UPS to our municipality," says Yvon Lapierre, Mayor of Dieppe. "The world-renowned company is known for its quality service and reliability and their presence in Dieppe is a further testament to our dynamic business approach and our strategic location."
The expansion, which represents a multi-million dollar investment and approximately 250 new UPS jobs in Atlantic Canada, 100 of which are within Greater Moncton, builds on UPS's commitment to the region.
"The Greater Moncton community has been very supportive of us throughout the years," says Gares. "As part of our legacy, we will continue to show our support and give back to the people and businesses that have been so good to us."
UPS has been a long-standing employer in New Brunswick - coming to the province in 1994 - with its customer contact centre, accounting and brokerage functions. In Moncton alone there are over 400 employees. The UPS Store network also operates 19 franchised locations in Atlantic Canada.
UPS continuously evaluates ways to leverage its superior service, technology infrastructure and reliable brand within Canada and around the world; investing and growing its presence locally and globally.
Six additional cities in the Atlantic provinces will be added to the network later in the year; as well as Halifax, Nova Scotia which opened at the end of May.
