Talks to be held June 4-7, with assistance of mediator Kevin Burkett
SUDBURY, ON, May 27 /CNW/ - Attempts to negotiate a resolution to the strike by 3,500 Vale Inco workers, now in its 11th month, will resume next week, with the assistance of veteran mediator Kevin Burkett.
"We are pleased that both parties have accepted the invitation of mediator Burkett to resume talks," said Wayne Fraser, Director of United Steelworkers District 6, representing Ontario and Atlantic Canada.
"We are hopeful that Vale will match our commitment to negotiate the fair settlement that is needed to resolve this dispute," Fraser said.
About 3,500 USW members in Sudbury and Port Colborne began a strike on July 13, 2009.
