Making Carbon a New Economic Sector
QUEBEC CITY, May 16, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - CO2 Solutions Inc (TSXV: CST) (the "Corporation"), world leader in enzyme-based CO2 capture today announced the composition of the scientific committee supporting the Valorisation Carbone Québec (VCQ) project. This committee will oversee the selection process of technologies to be part of the project and that will be demonstrated alongside CO2 Solutions' capture unit at the VCQ site in Montreal. The Corporation was able to assemble an exceptional group of reputable scientists from both the university and private sectors, with complimentary experience and skill sets to help drive the project. The committee members are:
Santiago Faucher, PhD |
Global Director, Technology Development |
Hatch Ltd |
Louis Fradette, PhD |
VCQ director Professor – Chemical engineering |
CO2 Solutions Inc. Polytechnique Montreal, Montreal |
Faïçal Larachi, PhD |
Professor – Chemical engineering |
Laval University, Quebec |
Manuele Margni, PhD |
Professor – Industrial engineering |
Polytechnique Montreal, Montreal |
Philippe Tanguy, PhD |
VP R&D Partnerships |
Total SA, France |
The committee, which has already commenced its work, has made a preliminary assessment of technologies available, and has made its first recommendation for a CO2 reuse technology, a process to obtain acetic acid from captured CO2, which will be included in the project. A second promising conversion process is currently being reviewed by the committee. The committee's work will continue throughout the VCQ project, which is anticipated to run through to March 2019. Additional information will be provided once the terms of the related agreements with the various CO2 reuse partners providing the technologies to the VCQ project are finalized.
"With this committee in place and work started, the VCQ project is now advancing at full speed" stated Louis Fradette, Director of the VCQ project. "Our first month of activity has already produced significant progress, and our vision of creating the world's leading CO2 capture and reuse demonstration site is materializing. This will be the pad from which important CO2 capture and reuse projects and partnerships will be launched. The government of Quebec's vision to facilitate and fund such a ground-breaking project, we believe, has created a unique collaboration between the public and private sectors. The VCQ project is providing essential infrastructure to help accelerate the creation of a significant new sector for our economy."
