WHISTLER, BC, March 13 /CNW/ - As a result of fog creating limited visibility and therefore unsafe racing conditions for the Paralympic alpine athletes, Vancouver 2010 organizers have postponed today's men's and women's downhill event (sitting, standing, visually impaired) at Whistler Creekside. Details on the date and time of the rescheduled event and instructions to ticket holders will be made available later today. The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) thank all athletes, spectators and participants for their patience with the event delays that ultimately resulted in a postponement.
It is common in alpine skiing for events to be postponed or rescheduled due to weather and race conditions and the decision to postpone the event was made jointly by the IPC and VANOC. Both organizations will continue to monitor the weather and work within the event schedule to ensure that all alpine competitions are successfully completed on a safe and optimal field of play.
