Vancouver Elementary School Teachers' Association endorses the NDP in the 2013 BC provincial election.
VANCOUVER, April 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Vancouver elementary teachers voted overwhelmingly to endorse the 11 Vancouver NDP candidates in the provincial election.
VESTA president Gerry Kent stated that "It has become increasingly difficult for teachers in Vancouver to meet the needs of the students in the face on continual budget cuts, the loss of specialized teachers and a lack of resources."
The Liberal governments have left a shameful legacy. Actions that demonstrate their lack of commitment to public education are chronic underfunding of school districts, the imposition of unconstitutional legislation, the closing of hundreds of schools, the elimination of thousands of teacher positions, cuts to services to students, the illegal stripping of collective agreements, and the downloading of costs to local school boards.
The recent Liberal budget once again fails to address the needs of the students in our public schools. BC needs a provincial government that will commit to repairing the damage done to the public education system and recognizes the value of public education in a healthy democracy.
