Vancouver Humane Society launches full-page ad against Luxton Rodeo
Campaign aims to end cruel events
VANCOUVER, May 13, 2014 /CNW/ - The Vancouver Humane Society (VHS) is running a full-page ad in today's Victoria Times-Colonist newspaper as part of its campaign to end animal cruelty at the Luxton Pro Rodeo in Langford, B.C, near Victoria.
The ad shows a photo of a calf being roped at the 2013 Luxton rodeo, with the headline: "Who could support this?" The ad calls on the public to boycott the rodeo, to ask Langford City Council to ban cruel rodeo events and to urge the Luxton Fairgrounds to stop hosting the event.
"We're asking people to speak out against animal cruelty at the Luxton Rodeo," said VHS spokesperson Peter Fricker.
VHS, local group Victoria Citizens Against Rodeo Events and the BC SPCA have all condemned animal cruelty at the rodeo.
The ad can be seen here.
