Vehicle Manufacturers Welcome Announcement of a New Auto Investment Committee
TORONTO, June 9, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association (CVMA) welcomes the creation of the new Canadian Automotive Partnership Council (CAPC) sub-committee to promote auto manufacturing in Ontario, announced today by the Governments of Canada and Ontario. This will further support CAPC's vision of Canada being the location of choice for automotive manufacturing in North America.
CAPC is an industry-led organization that examines and addresses key competitive issues facing the Canadian automotive industry. It is comprised of the CEOs of Canada's five assemblers and leading parts suppliers, as well as representatives of Unifor, industry-related associations, auto research-focused academia, and the federal and provincial (Ontario and Quebec) Ministers of Industry.
"Auto investment decisions have never been more globally competitive or complex," said Mark Nantais, President of the CVMA. "The announcement today illustrates the provincial and federal government's recognition of the importance of the Canadian auto manufacturing industry as a key economic contributor and the need to address global competitiveness issues. This announcement is a positive step forward to position Ontario as an attractive location for global auto investment decisions."
The announcement follows on a key recommendation from the recent CAPC report, "A Call for Action: II" to improve and enhance collaboration between levels of government to develop a clear and compelling case for investment in the Canadian auto industry.
CVMA member companies who have each invested in advanced manufacturing in Canada for over 100 years look forward to working with Ray Tanguay as the Chair of this new sub-committee to ensure auto manufacturing remains a key cornerstone of Canada's economy. "He is an accomplished and respected auto executive who will bring insight, experience and candid advice to the governments who want to sustain and grow auto jobs and investment in Canada," concluded Nantais.
