Veridian updates its community power outage status report
AJAX, ON, Dec. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Veridian crews continued their power restoration efforts on Christmas Day, and were able to restore service to about 800 customers in the City of Pickering, the Town of Ajax, the Municipality of Clarington and the Municipality of Port Hope. Approximately 1,700 Veridian are currently without service due to the impacts of last weekend's ice storm.
While Veridian has maintained the strength of its line and tree trimming resources during today's holiday, restoration progress slowed as the remaining affected areas are those with the most storm-related damage. Also, much of the remaining restoration work involves supply lines located in customer backyards, making access more difficult.
Restoration activity will continue overnight. Increased resources will be deployed on Boxing Day, as Veridian has obtained additional support from other local electricity distributors that were not as affected by the weekend storm.
Following is an outage status report for each of the communities in which Veridian is aware of customers that continue to be without service:
Port Hope - All affected customers have had power restored, with the exception of a few individual customers with damaged equipment that must be repaired or replaced to accommodate reconnection.

While Veridian continues to be committed to restoring power to all affected customers as quickly as possible, equipment damage affecting individual customers may result in prolonged power outages.
In some cases, repairs to customer owned meter bases and service masts must be completed before Veridian is able to restore service to individual customers. The repair or replacement of such equipment must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor retained by the customer. Approved contractors can be found at http://applications.dmtispatial.com/esa/ or by calling ESA at 1.877.372.7233.
Customers are reminded to exercise extreme caution around damaged poles and downed wires. All fallen wires should be considered live and dangerous. Customers are urged to report the locations of fallen wires to Veridian's 24-hour Outage Hotline by calling 1-866-579-6819.
