More than $277,000 from the Government of Canada will support three projects
VERNON, BC, Aug. 17, 2017 /CNW/ - Facilities and amenities in Vernon will benefit from safer, more reliable infrastructure as a result of funding of $277,019 for three projects from the Government of Canada.
The funding was announced today by the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada.
The funding will support three projects, including upgrades to sports fields, recreation centres and parks. The announcement was made at the Vantage One Soccer Centre, an indoor recreational facility, where the federal investment will be used to rehabilitate the artificial turf.
This investment is being allocated under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, a $300-million fund that was established to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together. Of that amount, up to $92.4 million is being invested across Western Canada.
Quotes
"These investments are nation-building projects to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary. And there's no better way to mark this milestone than to celebrate the places that bring us together – the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That's how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people come from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces."
- The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada
"Recreational facilities, sports fields, and parks are all key elements of strong, vibrant and healthy communities. By supporting projects that strengthen these cherished amenities, we are in turn strengthening communities and providing a better quality of life for the people that live within them."
- The Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities
"We really appreciate the Government of Canada's contribution. The Vantage One Indoor Soccer Centre is a very well-used sports amenity, and this turf replacement will ensure that it serves the community well in to the future."
