Veteran FINTRAC Employee Joins MNP's Growing Anti Money Laundering Practice
TORONTO, Sept. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - MNP, one of Canada's largest national accounting and business consulting firms, announced today the recent appointment of Paul Burak as Manager of the firm's Anti Money Laundering (AML) Unit. Burak comes to MNP from a highly successful career with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), bringing inside knowledge to organizations working to ensure that they are in compliance with Canada's AML laws.
Scott Crowley, Regional Managing Partner of Advisory Services in MNP's Ontario region, says that Burak will be a significant benefit to the firm's AML clients. "Understanding and meeting AML obligations can be difficult and one of the big questions is 'what does your regulator expect of your compliance program?' Paul knows what FINTRAC expects and he can apply that knowledge to developing and testing AML compliance programs for our clients."
While with FINTRAC, Burak was instrumental in redesigning the examination process and responsible for conducting compliance examinations on the largest financial services companies in Canada to ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA). His experience includes evaluating policies and procedures, risk assessments, effectiveness reviews, record keeping and transaction reporting.
"Paul's technical knowledge related to AML and anti-terrorist financing compliance gives our team more strategic insight to bring to entities of all sizes, including banks, credit unions, money service businesses, life insurance firms, securities dealers and casinos, just to name a few," says Mathew McGuire, National Leader of MNP's AML practice. "Paul's background clearly demonstrated to us that he would be a great fit to our team but also someone who would be instrumental in expanding our AML capabilities."
