Companies can boost employee engagement and make a real difference in hunger relief and food waste through the Second Harvest Hero campaign
TORONTO, July 14, 2015 /CNW/ - Second Harvest invites Toronto's corporations to help reduce food waste and provide hunger relief in the community as part of the Second Harvest Hero workplace campaign. Corporate partners can help boost employee engagement, bring staff together and make a real difference for those experiencing hunger in Toronto. Funds raised and time donated by Second Harvest Heroes will be used to rescue excess food and distribute it to over 200 of Toronto's community agencies.
"At Second Harvest we greatly appreciate and rely on the support of our corporate partners to help us provide 20,000 meals a day, every day," said Debra Lawson, Executive Director, Second Harvest. "Through the Hero campaign, Second Harvest Heroes raise funds to rescue food that would otherwise go to waste and allocate it to those who need healthy, nutritious meals. Working with Second Harvest, corporations can help those in need, make a real difference and boost employee engagement with Second Harvest Hero Day events."
"CIBC Mellon has been involved with Second Harvest for more than 10 years, and we have watched hundreds of employees join together and volunteer their time to raise money for food rescue," said Jerry Beniuk, Head of Global Fund Services, CIBC Mellon. "Our involvement with the Second Harvest Hero campaign has been a lot of fun for our employees and a great chance to come together – I strongly encourage other corporations to join Second Harvest as Heroes and become leaders in community investment."
