TORONTO, Jan. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - Once again last week, CP24 proved it is the station of choice for breaking news in the GTA and Hamilton. While Kathleen Wynne made history, CP24 more than doubled its average Saturday audience, up 115% between the hours of 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. As the riveting 13 hour political marathon came to its dramatic finale with Wynne's victory, CP24 delivered the most-watched coverage of the convention, with 1.5 million viewers tuning in to watch some part of the broadcast, and viewership peaking at 116,000 viewers on Saturday.
CTVNews.ca and CP24.com delivered three live digital channels on Saturday, increasing the weekly video views by 22% (week-over-week), and 66% compared to the average Saturday traffic. The digital channels provided a unique digital experience.*
On Friday, Torontonians tuned in to CP24 to learn the fate of Mayor Rob Ford's conflict of interest appeal. CP24 viewership was 34% higher than its typical Friday season-to-date, peaking at 10:30 a.m. with an audience of 145,000 - 189% higher than the average at that time - as the verdict came down and the decision to keep Mayor Ford in office was announced.
"Whenever breaking news happens, Torontonians routinely turn to CP24 first," said Joanne MacDonald, Vice-President, CTV News and General Manager, CP24. "From Friday morning right through to the announcement of the new provincial leader, CP24 offered the most current and informative interviews and analysis available."
CP24 is Toronto's source for breaking news. Available on multiple platforms including television, web, and mobile, CP24 is the GTA's #1 destination for news, weather and traffic. CP24 is the most-followed newsroom in Canada via its Twitter handle @CP24. CP24 also delivers information on the move with the CP24 traffic app. CP24 has been honoured numerous times by the Radio-Television News Directors Association Awards (RTNDA), including, most recently, the Gordon Sinclair Award in 2010 and the Use of New Media Award in 2009.
