Virginia Rankin joins Sphere Media as Executive Producer
MONTREAL, June 5, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Sphere Media Plus and Jocelyn Deschenes are pleased to announce that Virginia Rankin has joined Sphere as Executive Producer of Season Two of the hit English language adaptation of drama series 19-2.
Along with her role on 19-2, Virginia will also Executive Produce all English language production for Sphere and identify and develop new projects for the Canadian and International markets.
Previously, Virginia was Co-Executive Producer of season one of 19-2 , which was Bravo channel's highest-rated new series of 2014. Virginia has been an independent producer, story consultant and broadcast executive for 14 years, having oversight of more than 250 hours of prime-time scripted television, including four seasons of Flashpoint (CTV/CBS/ION). Virginia was also Consulting Producer on APTN's Hard Rock Medical. Through her company, Netherwood Productions, Virginia has developed projects with all of the Canadian networks, including Shaw Media, Bell Media, Rogers, APTN and the CBC, as well as with studios FTVS, Entertainment One and Natalie Portman's handsomecharliefilms.
Virginia started her career as a development executive at CTV. She received training from the Canadian Film Centre's Prime Time Television program, where she is now a mentor. Prior to that, Virginia graduated with a BFA (Honors) from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Virginia has been nominated for four Gemini Awards.
SPHÈRE MÉDIA PLUS was founded in 1997, by Jocelyn Deschenes, one of Quebec's most respected and prolific producers. Sphere Media has over 975 episodes produced or in production, amounting to more than 800 hours of primetime television broadcast on the Radio-Canada, TVA, Séries+, CBC and Bravo (Bell Media). In 2011, SPHÈRE MÉDIA PLUS officially opened an office in Toronto to reinforce their presence in the North American English market.
In 2013, Sphere Media Plus co-produced (with Echo Media) season 2 of the police drama 19-2, as well as an English-language version of this same award-winning series, which was shot in the fall of 2013. The first season of the English version of 19-2 aired this winter on the BRAVO network (Bell Media). BRAVO has renewed 19-2 for a second season. The production of this new season is starting this summer. CTV will rebroadcast Season One starting TONIGHT at 10pm.
