Visitor Services Discovery Team offers free Downtown Yonge tours
TORONTO, June 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Explore the Downtown Yonge neighbourhood this summer with the Downtown Yonge Discovery Team! The energetic young team is back for its 9th season to help connect visitors with the vibrant downtown community, offering unique ambassador services in the urban core.
"Our team offers visitors the best possible on-street service," says Mark Garner, Downtown Yonge BIA's Executive Director and Chief Staff Officer. "Tourists come to our area because it is the best shopping and entertainment destination in Toronto. The Discovery Team connects people with the exact places and experiences they are looking for in our neighbourhood," he says.
The Discovery Team sets up a brightly coloured kiosk every day of the week, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the southwest corner of the Yonge/Dundas intersection from June 3 to August 31, 2013. The friendly team members share information about events happening in the area, give recommendations for entertainment, dining and shopping as well providing directions and answering any other questions tourists might have.
The team gives away free way-finding and marketing materials to visitors, but their most popular service is the free neighbourhood tour they offer twice a day. The hour and a half long tour takes you to fascinating historic and iconic sights in the area such as Maple Leaf Gardents, Old City Hall, the Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre Centre and much more. Not only is the tour a great introduction to the neighbourhood but it is offered in Cantonese, Portuguese, French and Spanish as well as English (if booked ahead).
