VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ELECTIONS ONTARIO ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
TORONTO, Sept. 29 /CNW/ - The Chief Electoral Officer of Ontario is seeking volunteers from across the province to serve on the inaugural Elections Ontario Accessibility Advisory Committee (EOAAC). The Committee will provide advice to the Chief Electoral Officer of Ontario to enhance access to the electoral process by voters with disabilities.
The main purposes and activities of the Accessibility Advisory Committee are to:
- Advise the Chief Electoral Officer on the development, implementation and effectiveness of Elections Ontario's Accessibility Program;
- Provide insight into the requirements of persons with disabilities with regard to the electoral process;
- Advise on possible implications and Elections Ontario's response to emerging regulations made under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005;
- Provide options and advice on other accessibility related issues within the organization;
- Advise on future public consultation on accessibility, including recommendations on the structure and membership of the permanent EOAAC.
To be considered as a committee member, applicants must be eligible electors. Individuals as well as representatives from organizations that serve people with disabilities are welcome to apply. Committee members must conduct themselves impartially as advisors to the CEO.

Members of the public interested in serving on the Advisory Committee must submit their applications no later than Friday October 22, 2010.
