Vonage Enhances Extensions® App for Canadian Customers
Adds Mobile Inbound Calling and Selective Call Blocking
HOLMDEL, N.J., Oct. 8, 2015 /CNW/ -- Vonage's Canadian customers can now take advantage of key enhancements to Vonage's patented Extensions® app to make and receive local and international calls using their home phone service anywhere they use a smartphone, and to block unwanted calls to their Vonage number.
Mobile Inbound Calling Functionality
Mobile inbound calling allows shared use of a family's home phone identity. Calls made to the home phone number now ring on two linked mobile phones at the same time so anyone in the household can immediately take important calls from doctors, children's schools, home improvement professionals, friends and family.
With the new service, inbound calls to the app indicate that the call was made to a user's home number, and outbound calls are displayed with the home caller ID. This allows customers to use their home number on their mobile phone and to keep their mobile number private, giving them more control over when, how and where they communicate.
Once the app is installed, calls to a customer's home phone number will ring on two mobile phones, and users can make and receive calls anywhere there is Wi-Fi or a 3G/4G1 connection. With Wi-Fi calling, customers can also use Vonage service on mobiles in areas with poor cellular coverage, including their homes, regardless of which cellular carrier they use.
"Today's consumers are increasingly mobile, and adding mobile inbound calling to the Extensions App ensures Vonage customers never miss a call while away from home," said Ted Gilvar, Chief Marketing Officer for Vonage. "This enhancement adds value for our customers, as they can now take their service on the go to make and receive calls, taking advantage of the benefits and utility of a shared home identity with the value of low international calling rates."
Selective Call Blocking
As consumers are increasingly targeted by unwanted callers, it is important to have the ability to easily block these numbers. Vonage Canadian customers are now able to set up Selective Call Blocking exclusively through the Vonage Extensions App simply by swiping the number and selecting "Block." Once blocked, that number will not ring on the Vonage home phone or any smartphone linked to the customer's Vonage service, and customers can block and unblock a number as frequently as they like. Blocked callers will receive a message stating that the customer is not accepting calls at this time.
"We've all been in a situation where an unwanted call interrupts us at dinner or just won't stop calling," said Gilvar. "We're thrilled to enable Selective Call Blocking for our Canadian customers, and, we've made it easy to block these calls with a simple swipe from our Extensions App."
To take advantage of these added benefits, Canadian residential and business service customers can simply download the Extensions app to their iPhone® or Android™ smartphone.
