Vote on tentative deal at NOSM rescheduled to Oct. 12
SUDBURY, ON, Oct 5 /CNW/ - Striking administrative, clerical and technical workers at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine have rescheduled their vote on a tentative contract to Oct. 12.
Members of Local 677 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union had originally planned to vote on the deal Oct. 7.
"There has been considerable delay in getting agreement on the summary of the tentative contract. We feel it is only fair that our members have a few days to review the proposed deal before voting on it," said Tyler England, chair of the bargaining team representing more than 150 staff members at NOSM. They have been on strike for a first contract since Aug. 16.
The Thanksgiving holiday weekend also meant delaying the vote until Oct. 12, said England.
Picket lines will remain in place at NOSM campuses at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and Laurentian University in Sudbury until Tuesday's vote. NOSM also operates satellite campuses in Sault Ste Marie and Timmins.
