Voters' list for Toronto's municipal election now available - checking the
list is as easy as dialing 311

TORONTO, Sept. 7 /CNW/ - The voters' list for the City of Toronto's municipal election on October 25 is now available for people to confirm whether they are on the list. The list identifies eligible voters, including their name and address as well as the school board they support.

Checking the voters' list in advance gives residents time to have their names added if they are not on the list or need to make changes to their information. Ensuring they are on the voters' list will save time on election day.

Toronto residents can check to see if their name is on the voters' list by:

• calling 311; it provides a convenient option for checking the list because the City of Toronto's contact centre is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides interpretation service in approximately 200 languages. Staff at 311 can provide the forms and information necessary to get on the list. From outside the 416 area code, callers should dial 416-392-CITY(2489). TTY users should call 416-338-0889.
• visiting the Elections and Registry Services counters of the City Clerk's Offices at Toronto City Hall, the Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough civic centres, or at the Toronto Elections office at 89 Northline Road.
• checking the list at the North York Central Library, Toronto Reference Library and the Urban Affairs Library.

If an eligible voter checks the voters' list and is not on it or if changes are needed, the person can simply complete a Voters' List Change Request form. The form will be available for download http://www.toronto.ca/elections/voters/voter-info.htm or can be mailed upon request.

The City Clerk can only accept forms during the revision period, which begins September 7 to October 25. The forms can be returned to Toronto Elections Services the following ways:

• delivered in person with acceptable identification to a City Clerk's Office  at Toronto City Hall, the Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough civic centres,  or the Toronto Elections office at 89 Northline Road
• mailed with photocopies of acceptable identification to the Toronto Elections office, 89 Northline Road, Toronto, ON, M4B 3G1

To vote in this election, new provincial legislation requires voters to provide identification. A complete list of acceptable forms of identification is available on the Toronto Elections website: http://www.toronto.ca/elections/voters/identification.htm.

Eligible voters can still vote if they are not on the voters' list. Voters can show up at their voting place with acceptable identification and their name can be added to the voters' list.

By law, the information contained in the voters' list can only be used for election purposes.
