Voting Tomorrow? Here's what you need to know

TORONTO, Sept. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - Voters who plan to cast their ballot on September 6 for the provincial by-elections in the Electoral Districts of Kitchener - Waterloo and Vaughan should follow a simple checklist before heading to their poll.

First, to be eligible to vote, a person must be 18 years of age or older on election day, a Canadian citizen and a resident of either the provincial Electoral District of Kitchener - Waterloo or Vaughan.

Voters should make sure they have the right identification documents to receive a ballot. This could be an Ontario driver's licence/permit, a utility bill or any document issued by the Government of Canada or Ontario or a municipality. A comprehensive list of acceptable documentation is available at wemakevotingeasy.ca.

Voters should also remember to take their Notice of Registration Card. At the voting location, an election worker will greet voters and ask for their Notice of Registration Card and their proof of identity before issuing the voter a ballot.

Eligible Ontarians who did not receive a Notice of Registration Card can still vote. A voter without a Notice of Registration Card who is not on the Voters List will need to provide proof of name and residence and must sign a declaration to obtain a ballot. Elections Ontario encourages all eligible voters to visit wemakevotingeasy.ca or to call their local returning office to find out their election day voting location.

More than 1600 election workers will be stationed at more than 159 voting locations to support 12 hours of voting between 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Electoral Districts of Kitchener - Waterloo and Vaughan.
