over 4,000 U.S. and Canadian Walmart stores - Walmart Canada will carry over 100 Spider-Man products online and in-store
MISSISSAUGA, ON, July 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Spider-ManTM fans are swinging into Walmart Canada this summer following the highly anticipated release of The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3. Walmart, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Marvel Entertainment have teamed up for an unprecedented partnership to offer customers the ultimate Spider-Man experience at Walmart Canada stores.
"We're thrilled to be the destination for all things Spider-Man," said Jeff Tate, marketing manager at Walmart Canada. "From DVDs to action figures and apparel, we've got just about everything for Spider-Man fans across the country."
Walmart Canada has also launched the "Web-Slinger" augmented reality mobile app. Built by Nova Scotia emerging technologies firm, Ad-Dispatch, for Walmart U.S. and Walmart Canada, this interactive app enables customers to take photos with a life-size 3D interactive Spider-Man and make him come to life in the Walmart flyer pages. Customers can then unlock game features by visiting multiple locations within the store while playing the app's web shooter game.
To play the Webshooter Game
Step 1: Download the app from iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store.
Step 2: View the Spider-Man image in the July 6th-12th Walmart flyer in the "Meet Spidey" mode to make him come to life in the flyer.
Step 3: Visit your local Walmart to take pictures with Spider-Man by using the "Meet Spidey" mode.
Step 4: Use the App's Webshooter game mode to save the world from the Lizard.
"We're thrilled to be working with Walmart Canada and Walmart U.S. on this project. Our team is very proud to be able to showcase the talent that exists here in Nova Scotia, on a global scale," said Jonathan Burns, vice-president of sales and managing partner at Ad-Dispatch.
"We're delighted to be able to introduce this new, interactive technology to our customers," said Zach James, director of category marketing at Walmart Canada. "We're continually striving to provide a better shopping experience for our customers, and this technology gives them the ability to experience Spider-Man at Walmart on a whole new level."
