Walmart Canada cuts prices on some of life's necessities by as much as 60%

Retailer celebrates 15-year milestone with biggest Anniversary Event yet

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 18 /CNW/ - Walmart Canada is celebrating its 15th anniversary with substantial price drops storewide, primarily on staple products, during its biggest ever annual Anniversary Event. Beginning today, Walmart stores nationwide will introduce lower prices on a changing list of items over fifteen days straight. This is part of the company's effort to offer thousands of lowered prices and more than 100 million dollars in customer savings throughout the month of September.

"These timely price drops recognize both a milestone year for our company, but also one of the toughest years in memory for many of our customers," said Jim Thompson , Walmart Canada's vice-president of merchandise and operations. "This year Walmart has had an opportunity to shine for the growing number of value conscious Canadians. In that spirit, this will be our biggest and longest sale ever."

Walmart has extended this year's Anniversary Event to 15 days, eight days longer than usual. It is also stocking approximately 20 per cent more reduced-price merchandise, expecting that the economy and the growing consumer focus on value will drive additional customer demand.

"As any Walmart customer knows, our everyday low prices offer a deal every time they walk through the door," said Thompson. "But our Anniversary Event is an annual opportunity to break with the norm and take our prices even lower."

Walmart Canada Anniversary Event pricing will be found in all departments storewide, including electronics (Samsung 50" HDTV, $998 ), home décor (Jumbo bed pillows, 2 for $8 ), personal care (Fructis Shampoo reduced from $13.92 to $6.97 ), health and wellness (Cold FX, reduced from $22.97 to $15 ), apparel (5-pack t-shirts, $10 ), and the following family household staples:

    
    Pampers diapers reduced approximately 25 per cent
    Colgate toothpaste reduced approximately 35 per cent
    Irish Spring soap, Tide laundry detergent, and Advil reduced
    approximately 40 per cent
    Charmin bathroom tissue reduced approximately 45 per cent
    Kraft Dinner, Duracell batteries, bakeware and food storage reduced
    approximately 50 per cent
    Jamieson's vitamins reduced approximately 60 per cent

Merchandise with reduced prices will be available while quantities last. Many additional new price reductions will occur over the course of the 15-day Anniversary Event.
