Walmart Canada drops Christmas toy prices earlier than ever

Stores to offer select brand-name toys reduced to $10

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 25 /CNW/ - Beginning today, Walmart Canada stores nationwide have dropped the price of some popular brand-name toys to $10 . New toys will be reduced to $10 every week between now and Christmas.

Research shows that Canadians are concerned about the economy, but don't want to compromise when it comes to gift giving or entertaining over the holiday season. While 54 per cent of Canadians say they are more worried about the economy this year than last, 81 per cent say that they plan to spend the same amount on gifts for their children as last year. Many shoppers plan to buy items on sale (74 per cent) to help stay on budget, and many expect to spread the expense of their holiday shopping over a longer period of time to avoid large post-Christmas bills.

"This year's Christmas shopper is going to be selective and value conscious like never before," says Jim Thompson , Walmart Canada's senior-vice president of merchandise and operations. "That's why we are starting our Christmas toy price cuts earlier than ever, across more toys than ever before."

Walmart Canada stores are currently celebrating the company's 15th anniversary and expect to offer thousands of lowered prices and more than 100 million dollars in customer savings, through September.

During this anniversary event, shoppers will find ten toys priced at $10 each, representing reductions of up to 67 per cent. These toys include such popular items as Transformers Universe (regular $29.92 ), Tini Puppini Fashion Dogs (regular $29.94 ), and Mega Bloks' Builder Racer (regular 24.96).
