MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 26, 2019 /CNW/ - Walmart Canada recognizes that investing in the professional development of their associates is vital to its future success. Today, the company launched AdvancED, an education assistance program providing learning opportunities for Walmart associates and their eligible family members. As part of the program, Walmart has partnered with Humber College and their network of educational partners to provide learning opportunities for eligible Walmart associates across Canada.
Through the AdvancED program, all Walmart full-time associates who attend an accredited Canadian college or university are eligible to receive a $2,500 tuition reimbursement per year, and an additional 20 per cent tuition reimbursement for courses taken at Humber or their network of educational partners. All permanent part-time associates and eligible family members of full-time associates are eligible to receive a 20 per cent tuition reimbursement for programs or courses taken at Humber or their network of educational partners.
"Walmart Canada is committed to supporting the life-long learning of our associates," said Lee Tappenden, president and CEO, Walmart Canada. "Through AdvancED, our current and future associates can enhance the skills required for today while preparing for new and innovative ways of working in the future."
As Walmart Canada's lead national postsecondary partner, Humber is building a network of Canadian postsecondary institutions to connect associates with diverse and flexible programming available online or on campus.
"This important partnership reinforces Humber's leadership in collaborating with Canadian companies and organizations to help build tomorrow's workforce today," says Chris Whitaker, president and CEO, Humber College. "Through our creation of the AdvancED network, we will help associates and their families achieve their goals through flexible and life-long learning options."
The AdvancED network of postsecondary institutions will offer programs and courses in both English and French. Collège Boréal is the first to join the network and will be its primary French language education provider. Other participating partners will be announced later this year.
"Offering this program in both official languages will help build interest and momentum as AdvancED rolls out across the country," says Daniel Giroux, president, Collège Boréal. "We are looking forward to building the French language network and welcoming new students either to our campus or online."
To assist associates in selecting the right options for upskilling, Humber, Boréal and future members of the AdvancED network will provide pre-enrolment, career and academic advising services. Through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition processes, associates may also receive course credit for their on-the-job training and experiences, reducing the time it takes for associates to complete programs.
Associates can now access a wide range of Humber and Boréal programs and courses in-person and online. Additional postsecondary institutions will be added to the network over the next several months. More information about the AdvancED program can be found at WalmartAdvancED.ca.
