Retailer awards more than $120,000 in bursaries to 54 students across the country
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 12, 2014 /CNW/ - Walmart Canada announced today it has awarded a total of $124,000 in bursaries to 54 students across Canada through the Walmart Canada Scholarship program. Recipients were selected from more than 1,000 applicants and were evaluated based on academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities, community involvement and environmental stewardship. Since 1994, Walmart Canada has sponsored more than 900 university and college scholarships totaling more than $2 million.
The three scholarship programs offered are:
- Community Scholarship for graduating high school students. Valued at $4,000 over four years.
- Associate Scholarship for associates and their children. Valued at $2,000 over one year.
- Lou Puim Memorial Scholarship for associates and their children pursuing a career in marketing or communications. Valued at $4,000 over four years.
