today announced that it will operate 181 of its 314 stores nationwide around the clock in December. More than half of Walmart stores will open their doors on
December 4
and leave them open until closing time on
Christmas Eve

For the last two years, Walmart
Canada
has offered 24-hour shopping during the Christmas shopping period. "Especially at Christmas, we recognize the need for extended hours," said
Jim Thompson
, Walmart Canada's senior vice president of operations. "For everyone from busy moms to shift workers, our flexible hours, one-stop shopping and every day low prices continue to make our Walmart stores a top destination for holiday shoppers year after year."
According to Walmart
Canada
sales data, the top three categories for Canadians shopping during the wee hours of the morning are:
- Electronics
- Dry groceries
- Candy snacks
"Our sales data illustrates customers are stocking up on everything from food staples to TVs and lots of midnight munchies," added Thompson. "Walmart's shopping marathon clearly appeals to customers of all types."
One or more Walmart stores in the following cities will operate 24-hours-a-day from
December 4
until closing time on
December 24
