WINNIPEG, Aug. 20 /CNW Telbec/ - Being born missing her right foot hasn't stopped Taryn Klippenstein, 7, of Winnipeg, from enjoying activities like swimming with her friends. She does so with a waterproof swim leg provided by The War Amps.
Taryn will show her swim leg in a news conference at 10:30 a.m. today (Friday August 20) in the East Ballroom of the Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel as the opening session of The War Amps 2010 Western Child Amputee (CHAMP) Seminar.
This year is the 35th anniversary of the CHAMP Program, and the theme of the news conference is Growing Up With CHAMP. Other Champs from across the Western provinces will also demonstrate the artificial limbs and devices they use to overcome their amputations and achieve their goals, including playing guitar and baseball.
The seminar, which runs August 20-22, is a life-changing experience for Champs and their parents, and covers everything from raising an amputee child, to dealing with teasing and staring, to seeing the latest developments in artificial limbs.
Media are welcome to attend the sessions, or interviews with the Champs can be arranged at any time.
