War Amps Films Wins Top Awards at U.S. Film Festivals
OTTAWA, April 27, 2012 /CNW/ - A War Amps public service announcement, Rebecca and The Roughriders, has won a Gold Award at this year's WorldFest-Houston competition, along with The War Amps Matteo PSA and longer profile Matteo's Story. WorldFest Houston is one of the oldest and largest film and video competitions in the world, with more than 4,500 category entries received from 37 countries in 2011.
Rebecca and The Roughriders features Rebecca, 7, of Barrie, a member of The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program who lost part of her right leg in a boating accident. After being named The War Amps National Safety Ambassador, she joined Saskatchewan Roughrider stars Darian Durant, Weston Dressler, Chris Getzlaf and Lance Frazier last summer to film the annual War Amps CFL® PLAYSAFE PSA.
This PSA was also recently recognized with a Silver Plaque Award at the Chicago International Film Festival's Hugo Television Awards, which celebrate the quality of and diversity in television programming and television commercials worldwide.
Born a double leg amputee, Matteo, 5, is featured in The War Amps Matteo PSA and longer profile Matteo's Story. These films feature him being active with his artificial legs, including waterproof legs for his favourite activity - swimming. Matteo's Story was previously recognized with a Gold Award at the 2012 International Mercury Awards in New York City.
