War Amps key tags at work in 2010

Key tags will be mailed in Newfoundland/Labrador starting January 25th

NEWFOUNDLAND/LABRADOR, Jan. 25 /CNW Telbec/ - When Newfoundland and Labrador residents receive their 2010 War Amps key tags starting this week, they will also learn how these tags are hard at work assisting amputees in their community.

War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton explains in the letter enclosed with the mailing:

"In May of this year, we mark the 65th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe ) Day and, in August, VJ Day, the surrender of Japan which brought World War II to a close. For those veterans able to return home, it provided an opportunity to re-establish ourselves. For The War Amps, it meant we could start up the Key Tag Service."

He points out that, during the ensuing years, The War Amps has developed a strong relationship with the public by providing this valuable lost key return service. Support of this service makes the Association's many programs possible, including the Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, which provides funding for artificial limbs, counselling, regional seminars and programs like Matching Mothers.

A supporter wrote to The War Amps recently to say, "I just received my car keys back from you and I can't say how grateful I am. I lost them while returning with my kids from a hockey game. The War Amps has saved me more than $400 - the cost of replacing the keys and the electronic device attached."

Key tags aren't just for car keys! Since 1946, The War Amps has returned more than one million sets of keys, and the service is more vital than ever with the extremely high replacement cost of electronic door openers and anti-theft devices. Each key tag has a confidentially-coded number. Should the keys be lost, the finder need only call the toll-free number on the back of the tag and the keys will be returned to the owner by bonded courier.
