War Amps "Matteo's Story" wins gold at International competition
NEW YORK CITY, March 2, 2012 /CNW/ - A War Amps vignette called Matteo's Story has won a Gold Award at the 2012 International Mercury Awards in New York City.
The three-minute video profiles Matteo, 5, a member of The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program. Born a double leg amputee, Matteo is part of The Winner's Circle, the philosophy at the centre of CHAMP which encourages young amputees to accept their amputations and develop a positive approach to challenges.
The video, which has been distributed to regular and community channels across Canada, includes footage of Matteo being active with his artificial legs, including waterproof legs for his favourite activity - swimming.
With the comprehensive support of CHAMP - from financial assistance for artificial limbs to counselling and regional seminars - Matteo and his family know that he is not alone, and that his future is full of opportunities.
