War Amps Productions Win Top Awards at U.S. Film Festivals
OTTAWA, July 28 /CNW Telbec/ - Some recent War Amps productions have won top awards at U.S. film festivals.
Mark: An Island Champ (30 min.) won a Gold Remi Award at the 2010 Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival. It tells the remarkable story of a young Prince Edward Island boy who lost an arm at seven in a farm accident. He enrolled in The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program and embraced its Winner's Circle philosophy. Now 20, he is a role model for the younger Champs, a successful athlete and well-known as a War Amps Safety Ambassador.
Two War Amps public service announcements also took home Gold Remi Awards in Houston. Legacy describes how The War Amps legacy will be carried into the future through CHAMP and, in Jarod and the Ticats, a young Champ who lost part of a leg in a lawnmower accident passes on The War Amps PLAYSAFE message with the help of players from the CFL's Hamilton Ticats. A third French-language PSA, Le Vainqueur Jeffrey, won a Platinum Remi Award.
At the Questar Film Festival in New York, La Vainqueur Juliette, a French-language PSA telling the story of CHAMP member Juliette, won the Gold award in the PSA category and went on to win the Festival's overall Grand Award.
