War Amps PSA "Rebecca and the Roughriders" Wins Top Awards at Film Festivals
OTTAWA, April 27, 2012 /CNW/ - A War Amps public service announcement featuring Rebecca Mideros, 7, of Barrie, and Saskatchewan Roughriders stars Darian Durant, Weston Dressler, Chris Getzlaf and Lance Frazier has won a Gold Award at this year's WorldFest-Houston competition - one of the oldest and largest film and video competitions in the world, with more than 4,500 category entries received from 37 countries.
The PSA was also recently recognized with a Silver Plaque Award at the Chicago International Film Festival's Hugo Television Awards, which celebrate the quality of and diversity in television programming and television commercials worldwide.
Shortly after losing part of her right leg in a boating accident, Rebecca enrolled in The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, and now uses her experience to pass on the PLAYSAFE message. After being named The War Amps National Safety Ambassador, Rebecca joined Saskatchewan Roughrider stars last summer to film this PSA at Regina's Mosaic Stadium. It began airing nationally last fall.
For more than 30 years, The War Amps and the Canadian Football League have shared a special tradition - the annual CFL® PLAYSAFE PSA, saluting the League's support of The War Amps safety program. Like all War Amps productions, the PSA is funded by corporate sponsors.
