QUEBEC, Feb. 9, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The War Amps begins its 2015 key tag mailing to Quebec residents this week with the theme "The War Amps is there to help."
In the letter accompanying the key tags, a mother describes how she learned that her daughter, Frédérique, now 8, would be born with a problem in her right leg. Her foot was amputated shortly after her birth to allow her to be fitted with an artificial limb.
She reached out to The War Amps and Frédérique was enrollled in the Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program. Since then, the family has received emotional support and financial assistance for artificial and recreational limbs. The War Amps "matched" them through Matching Mothers to share concerns with other families, and they also attend regional seminars where they meet other child amputees and their parents and learn about the latest developments in artificial limbs.
Frédérique has also received a waterproof artificial leg. Not only does it let her enjoy swimming, but it also prevents her from slipping in the bath and shower. "I know she's going to be fine," says her mother. "With The War Amps continuing support, I can only imagine what Frédérique has in store for the future".
War Amps key tags protect any keys and are more vital than ever with the high replacement cost of electronic door openers and anti-theft devices. Each key tag has a confidentially coded number. Should the keys be lost, the finder can call the toll-free number on the back of the tag, or deposit them in any mailbox, and the keys will be returned to the owner by bonded courier.
The War Amps receives no government grants and its programs are possible through public support of the Key Tag and Address Label Service.
