MONTRÉAL, July 6, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Week-ends du monde presented by Loto-Québec are back at Parc Jean-Drapeau on July 9, 10, 16 and 17, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. The free event, which celebrates Montréal's cultural diversity, will be delighting festival-goers with dance, music and culinary discoveries for people of all ages.
During the four days of the event, the various communities will be sharing the main stages set up on site, on a daily basis, and the public is invited to leisurely make its way from stage to stage to enjoy the shows. Meanwhile, every day at Place des Saveurs, visitors can taste a variety of exotic and savoury dishes: an epicurean experience that's sure to please food lovers. The event is easily accessible by metro, at the Jean-Drapeau station.
A lively first weekend of activities
The event gets underway on Saturday, July 9 with the ever-popular Jamaica Day where reggae music is the spotlight. After a successful first edition, the Festival Vénézuélien celebrates this year with a "Rumba", while the Festival Cambodgien, back again this year, presents a show of traditional music and a Khmer orchestra. On this opening day of the festivities, the free version of the Piknic Électronik event gives way to eclectic Brazilian beats with TUPI Collective. And to cap the day in style, the opening show which starts at 8 p.m. has a distinctive Italian flavour with none other than Marco Calliari and his special guests, Tomas Jensen and Mamselle Ruiz.
On Sunday, July 10, the Festival Dominicain offers a variety of musical styles from Latin American countries like merengue, bachata, salsa and reggae. The EUROfEST, bringing together European cultures in Montreal, presents various artists from Romania, while the festival Québec-Maghreb will be uplifting with traditional songs and a delicious Mediterranean grill. Sunday evening promises to be stoked with enthusiasm starting at 7 p.m. thanks to the boundless and contagious energy of Nomadic Massive, the flagship group on Montréal's hip-hop scene, and Afrodizz, which is well-known for its brass and percussion instruments and its frenetic beats.
Family section
Again this year, children will be in for a special treat, with a program specially intended for them. Starting this weekend, Kattam and his Tams-Tams and the musical group Les Petites Tounes will be landing at Parc Jean-Drapeau with their charming repertoire of lively tunes. Added to this, in the Family Zone near the Jean-Drapeau subway station, there's the soccer workshop presented by the Montréal Impact soccer schools, the modules and games in the Zone Télé-Québec, the Montréal fire safety department's inflatable structure, the interactive obstacle course, make-up workshops for children, and lots more!
Every day at Week-ends du monde
During the two weekends, festival-goers can attend percussion workshops and dance classes. And throughout the festivities, you won't want to miss the giant solar balloons in the shape of a butterfly or parrot, or the colourful characters that enliven the trails along the site!
