MONTRÉAL, July 7, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - After an opening weekend highlighted by an array of musical influences, Week-ends du monde presented by Loto-Québec continues at Parc Jean-Drapeau this Saturday with a diversified program ranging from Latin American beats to the rhythmic sounds of African and Mexican music. The event ends the next day – on Sunday – with the return of many cultural communities, as well as the popular Montréal Brazilian Summer Carnival.
Saturday, July 11
The 43rd edition of the Festival péruvien de Montréal, the oldest Latin American festival in Québec, is on the program, with a host of artists who will take to the stage in a festive setting. Close by, on another stage, the Mexican community will be sharing its fine food and music, with its ever-popular band of mariachis. Meanwhile, the African community will welcome many artists in conjunction with the Festival Afro-Monde Ngondo, while the Piknic Électronik, which will be free for the occasion, will provide a special Caribbean ambiance.
Sunday, July 12
Week-ends du monde comes to a close with the festival celebrating Colombia's National Day, with its orchestras, folkloric dancing and typical food dishes. The same is true for two other closing-day events: Festival cubain de Montréal and Festival salvadorien de Montréal, both people-gathering and upbeat events. Then, at 6 p.m., with a zany-world theme, artists from the Brazilian community will gather for the huge parade that includes samba dancers and highly colourful costumes.
Family segment
Again this year, children will be able to enjoy a program meant specifically for them. Throughout the weekend, they can attend the Week-end complètement cirque event, which features acrobats, entertainment, participatory activities, inflatable games, giant soap bubbles, along with the Breyers make-up zone.
Every day at Week-ends du monde
Week-ends du monde provides visitors with the opportunity to make culinary discoveries every day on site. Head over to Place des Saveurs where visitors can taste the various food offerings, which are unique and original. Festival-goers can also take part in percussion workshops with the SAMAJAM music school or take dance lessons with the San Tropez school. And throughout the event, colourful characters will provide entertainment on the trails that run along the site.
