MONTREAL, Aug. 20, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - This year, back-to-school time will also be a time to hear from Montrealers about their vision for the future of Montréal, during the second part of the public consultation on the Montréal Development Plan (MDP). In addition to its usual public hearing of opinions sessions, the Office de consultation publique de Montréal is innovating by offering residents the opportunity to post online comments on YouSayCity about 17 future projects put forth by the MDP.
YouSayCity, a new online public consultation platform developed in Montréal by Pierre Beaudreau, allows you to view urban projects in 3D on an interactive, collaborative map that is open to all. The tool is free of charge and uses a map generated by Google Earth. Users can examine a project from every angle, as well as its placement in the city. They can also share and discuss projects, and create content by adding links, images and 3D models. YouSayCity has had over 1800 unique visitors since its launch in early June, and there have been more than 500 hits (viewings) on MDP project pages.
The Office is pleased to support the development of new consultation tools using intelligent mapping technologies. Their appropriation by residents heralds a new type of citizen participation, supported by high-quality visual representations that make it possible to gather residents' visions and concerns.
To help Montrealers to discover and participate in this new platform, the Office is putting online today the first three in a series of four tutorials.
The following are available at ocpm.qc.ca today:
Next week:
Montréal residents still have a month to contribute to the consultation on YouSayCity (note that everything will remain on line afterwards). The comments and opinions collected will be taken into account by the commission for the ongoing public consultation, along with the written briefs, opinions presented orally at the meetings, and answers to the public consultation questionnaires (ocpm.qc.ca/questionnaire-pdm).

In addition to YouSayCity, an interactive Google Maps map showing the projects proposed by the MDP has been available since the end of May at ocpm.qc.ca/carte-pdm. The map provides photos and external links to obtain additional information for every project in the Plan. Some 700 residents (unique users) have viewed the map since it was put on line.
It is important to note that the MDP presents the major proposals put forth by the Ville de Montréal for the next 20 years. This exercise will lead to the sharing of orientations and vision stemming from it, and the examination of strategies and priorities to promote Montréal's development. All available information on the plan may be obtained at ocpm.qc.ca/pdm.
