Welcome Spring at Montréal Space for Life

MONTRÉAL, April 6, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal Space for Life invites everyone to celebrate nature as it reawakens and to rediscover it through a child's eyes. Bring the family to the Biodôme to see the plants emerging from their winter slumber and all the gleefully chirping, fluttering birds. Watch the aerial ballet of the butterflies – they're especially active with the warmer sunny days – in the Botanical Garden's Main Exhibition Greenhouse. And as the days get longer, you can think about the thoroughly subjective concept of time and how it can be quite different elsewhere in the Universe, as you contemplate the starry skies from a new perspective at the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium.

Bird Fest – April 23 to May 15
The first signs of spring are popping up in the Laurentian Maple Forest, as the fresh green leaves begin to unfurl and the lovely warm days energize the animals. Starting April 23, our Bird Fest will be featuring more than 70 fabulous, colourful North American bird species. See how many of them you can spot as you stroll along the path and use the identification guide to try to recognize them! Are there any budding ornithologists in your family? 

Botanical Garden & Insectarium
Butterflies Go Free – Until April 24 – #ButterfliesMontreal
The days are getting warmer, and the first local butterflies, like mourning cloaks, can be seen flitting about outdoors starting this month. Spring also brings us more sunshine, and that means that the tropical butterflies are busier than ever in the Main Exhibition Greenhouse at this family event organized by the Insectarium. Don't miss this chance to relive your childhood – use the giant magnifying glasses to examine some splendid colourful caterpillars with spots, stripes and plenty of other clever tricks to surprise you… and frighten off predators.

Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium

While the Earth continues on its course toward the summer solstice, we're seeing more and more of the Sun. The days are getting longer, much to the delight of those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere. It's quite the opposite for those who live south of the Equator and very different on Mars, which has twice as many days in the year as we do and where the seasons are much longer. Time is relative, in other words. Tempo invites you to look at the sky from a whole new perspective and to ponder the close connection between our perception of time and our position in the Universe.

Montréal Space for Life is made up of four attractions on the same site: the Biodôme, Botanical Garden, Insectarium and Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium. These four prestigious municipal institutions form Canada's largest natural science museum complex. Together, they are launching a daring, creative urban movement, urging everyone to rethink the connection between humankind and nature and cultivate a new way of living.
