Wendy's Launches Alberta Road Tour for the Love of the Pretzel Bun

Four-week tour Invites Albertans to Share and Win

EDMONTON, July 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Beginning this weekend, Pretzel bun lovers in Alberta will have an opportunity to share their #ABPretzelLove as Wendy's kicks off a four-week long summer tour with special offers, prizing and a chance to share their #ABPretzelLove to win.

Driving across Alberta in a wrapped GMC Yukon, the Wendy's summer crew will connect pretzel bun addicts with their beloved Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger and Pretzel Pub Chicken Sandwich, inviting them to sing, recite or simply share their love on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Images and video will be captured using Nokia Lumia 1020s and participants will win prizes, including one winner of free cheeseburgers for a year at each stop on the tour, 22 grand prizes in all.

Back by popular demand for a limited time at Wendy's Restaurants in Canada, the Pretzel bun was first introduced last year and fans across North America consumed more than 50 million pretzel sandwiches from Wendy's. "After such positive feedback from Canadians, we are delighted to bring the pretzel bun back again for the summer," says Lisa Deletroz, director of marketing for Wendy's Restaurants of Canada. "In Alberta, we're inviting pretzel fans to show their love and tell us whether we should make this a permanent addition to the menu."

The Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger and Pretzel Pub Chicken Sandwich both feature an artisan-style pretzel bun, made using the same authentic process of traditional soft pretzels, giving them a rich flavour and a chewy crust.

The Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger features a warm cheddar cheese sauce, centre-cut Applewood Smoked Bacon and smoky honey mustard. The fresh, never frozen juicy beef* hamburger patty is garnished with a slice of cheddar cheese, sliced red onions and hand-cut tomato and fresh, spring mix made with nine different greens.

Chicken fans can also enjoy the return of the Wendy's pretzel bun with the Pretzel Pub Chicken Sandwich. This chicken sandwich is a far cry from the bland flavours you might expect from quick service restaurant chicken sandwiches, with upscale flavours and ingredients, such as a slice of rich, buttery Muenster cheese, sweet and savoury honey mustard and a warm cheddar cheese sauce. The Pretzel Pub Chicken sandwich showcases a lightly breaded all-white meat chicken breast topped with hand-sliced tomatoes and fresh spring mix.

The Wendy's #ABPretzelLove Tour kicks off this Saturday in Edmonton at K-Days and continues to Stony Plain, Leduc, Sherwood Park, Camrose, Red Deer, Olds,  Canmore,  Airdrie, including stops at Globalfest and Big Valley Jamboree and wraps up in Medicine Hat.
