VANCOUVER, Feb. 28, 2014 /CNW/ - WesternOne Inc. (TSX: WEQ, WEQ.DB, WEQ.DB.B and WEQ.DB.C) ("WesternOne") today announced that its Modular Building Division, Britco has been named as an Official Sponsor of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
As an Official Sponsor of the 2015 Canada Winter Games, Britco will provide contributions in kind for the Host Society's modular building requirements. Britco will also assist the Host Society with planning and development of the modular building program, including use, design and logistics for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
"Britco is proud to be the exclusive modular building supplier for the 2015 Winter Games. We are looking forward to assisting the Host Society in meeting the space and logistics requirements and to welcoming athletes from across Canada to this exciting sporting and cultural event in Prince George," says Britco President, Mike Ridley.
A unique element of the partnership will see Britco transform four of the modular buildings constructed for the 2015 Games into completely furnished libraries when the 2015 Games end. These libraries will be donated to First Nations communities in northern BC as a legacy project for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. This remarkable project highlights the sustainability, flexibility and reusability of modular buildings.
"Britco shares the same values as the 2015 Canada Winter Games, in their dedication to legacy and sustainability, which makes them an exceptional partner," explains Stuart Ballantyne, CEO 2015 Canada Winter Games. "Not only will Britco provide the 2015 Games with the same caliber of modular buildings used by the 2010 Olympics, their literacy project for First Nations Communities is commendable. We're thrilled to have them on board."
"This is a great opportunity for Britco to build on our experience of providing innovative and sustainable community legacies," says Ridley. "We saw how—after the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games—our legacy buildings helped transform local communities, and we are committed to continuing that tradition with the 2015 Canada Winter Games."
After the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, ten buildings originally used as commentator booths for the international media during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games were transformed into libraries and donated to First Nations communities in remote communities in BC.
