TORONTO, Feb. 19, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - HBO Canada will host the world premiere of Game of Thrones: The Exhibition from March 9 to 16 at the Design Exchange (DX) in the heart of downtown Toronto.
Toronto is the only Canadian stop for this event, which builds on the success of last year's sold-out exhibition that saw more than 25,000 fans turn out for the opportunity to engage with costumes and props from HBO's global production and line-up for a photo on the iconic iron throne. This year's effort, commissioned and curated by HBO, is a touring, interactive experience with subsequent stops in New York City, Sao Paulo, Amsterdam and Belfast. The exhibition will focus on key characters from five of the noble houses (Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon and Greyjoy), showcasing a treasure trove of more than 70 original artifacts from seasons 1 and 2, plus select pieces from this year's new season.
"HBO Canada is all about exclusive access to premium television and Game of Thrones: The Exhibition promises to bring fans up-close-and-personal with our biggest show and a bona fide pop-culture phenomenon," said Domenic Vivolo, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Astral Television Networks. "We look forward to opening the door to Westeros for Torontonians and hope everyone comes to check out the incredible craft and artistry that goes into bringing this series to life."
Built by New Project LLC, the exhibition includes:
Costumes, props, armour and weapons - Artisans, whose superb craftsmanship has provided authenticity to the medieval world of the show, worked closely with HBO to curate the exhibit with items including: an impressive costume display overseen by the show's costume designer Michele Clapton who dressed the mannequins to ensure accuracy in the presentation of the extraordinarily detailed garments, iconic artifacts such as model dragons, weaponry (Joffrey's crossbow, daggers and swords such as "Ice" and "Longclaw"), armour (helmets, shields and full suits of armour worn by key characters), crowns, jewelry, books and much more.
Blackwater Bay Interactive Experience - Fans will get an opportunity to participate in an exciting interactive experience that will place them amid the action of the epic battle of Blackwater Bay from season 2.
Iron throne - Fit for any king or queen, fans will be able to have their photo on a precise replica of the iron throne from the series.
This free event will be staged on the Trading Floor within the Design Exchange (DX). Located in downtown Toronto in the historic and original Toronto Stock Exchange building, the DX is Canada's only museum dedicated exclusively to the pursuit of design excellence and provides the ideal venue to celebrate the meticulously detailed work of the costume designers, set designers, graphic designers, and props masters behind Game of Thrones.
